privacy, cookies and consent

• when you join the waitlist or private access: your email address, and your first name if you give it.
• when you take the scent finder: your answers to its questions, and the fragrance it suggested. we keep these against your email so we can write to you about the scent you chose.
• when you order: your name, delivery address, email, phone number, and what you bought. payment details are handled by [payment provider] and never reach us.
• when you contact us: what you write to us, and your contact details.
• automatically: basic technical information such as your device type, browser and the pages you visit, used only to keep the site working and understand how it is used.

we do not collect sensitive information, and we ask you not to send it.

• to fulfil and deliver your order, and to tell you about it
• to send you alia's letters, if you have said yes to them
• to answer you when you write to us
• to keep the site secure and working
• to meet our legal obligations, including consumer and tax law

we only send marketing email with your express consent, as the Spam Act 2003 requires. you give it by ticking the box on our signup forms. the box is never pre-ticked, and joining the waitlist, taking the scent finder or placing an order does not by itself sign you up.

every email we send carries our name, a way to reach us, and an unsubscribe link. unsubscribing takes effect within five working days, and usually immediately. you can also write to info@aliafragrance.com and we will remove you.

we share personal information only with the services that run alia:

• Klaviyo, which holds our mailing list and sends our email. Klaviyo stores data in the United States.
• Vercel, which hosts this website. Vercel may process data in the United States and other regions.
• Shopify, which processes orders and payments once the store opens.
• [delivery carrier(s)], who receive your name, address and phone number to deliver your order.
• [any analytics or advertising tools, e.g. Meta Pixel, Google Analytics, or "none"]

because some of these are overseas, your information may be disclosed outside Australia. we take reasonable steps to make sure each provider handles it in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. we do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

this site sets only the cookies and browser storage it needs to work: to remember that you have seen the opening sequence, and to keep your place in the scent finder. these hold no personal information.

you can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. the site will still work, though some conveniences will reset.

we keep your information for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, and then for as long as the law requires. order records are kept for [7 years] for tax purposes. marketing details are kept until you unsubscribe, after which we retain only what we need to make sure we do not write to you again.

the site is served over an encrypted connection. access to your information is limited to the people who need it. no method of storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold and we will tell you and the regulator if a breach is likely to cause you serious harm.

you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. write to info@aliafragrance.com. we will respond within 30 days.

if you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first and we will try to put it right. if you are still unhappy, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

we will update this policy when what we collect or who we share it with changes. the date at the top is the date of the current version.
